Truckload shipping means your freight has the entire trailer to itself. There are no stops to pick up other companies' freight and no transfers. Your goods go from origin to destination with one carrier, which typically means faster transit times and a lower risk of damage compared to LTL. It is the right choice when you have enough freight to fill or nearly fill a trailer, when your shipment is time-sensitive, or when the nature of your goods makes shared trailer space a risk.
The short answer is when your freight fills roughly 10 or more pallets, takes up more than 10 to 12 linear feet of trailer space, or weighs more than around 15,000 pounds. At that point, a truckload is often more cost-effective than LTL and typically faster. There are also situations where the nature of the freight, high value, unusual dimensions, or temperature sensitivity, makes a dedicated trailer the right call even at lower volumes.
